San Diego Engagement Photographer // Melissa + Anh

SoCal inhabitants are so blessed with an abundance of beautiful, natural light, lovely outdoor venues, and warm temperatures year-round.  As a photographer, I feel like I have shot in a lot of the popular areas that San Diego has to offer.  So, imagine my surprise when Melissa + Anh suggested San Diego State University as the backdrop for their engagement shoot.  With the beautiful Spanish architecture and diversity of the sprawling campus, why had I never thought of this before?

I’m happy to say that the session was a smashing success… I can’t wait to see more of this beautiful couple at their wedding in August!

San Diego Engagement Photographer // Tiger + Heidi

I met Heidi + Tiger at a birthday party, hosted by some of my favorite people.  I was pleasantly surprised that I recognized Heidi, as we graduated from the same small high school together.  And I was happy to meet Tiger as well… I had heard so many good things about him from Thom, that it was a relief to finally put a face with the (frequently spoken) name.

We met at Balboa Park, Heidi’s daughter and the family’s new puppy in tow.  I wasn’t sure what to expect from this unusual engagement session, but I shouldn’t have wondered.  Heidi + Tiger have great chemistry and have no problem looking at each other with stars in their eyes – on camera and in real life.  And Emily is a beautiful and sweet girl… some of the family shots we got that day were my favorites.

Here is a peek at their session in the beautiful late-spring light….  I can’t wait for their wedding in July!

PS… those images with the “chin-resting-on-hand-looking-pensive/thoughtful?”  A “patented” Tiger pose.  ;)

San Diego Engagement Photographer // Kelly + Matthew

The power of Craigslist is… well, very powerful.  It was Craigslist (and kismet?) which, several years ago, facilitated me to sign up for a book group.  It met monthly, the reading list was intriguing, and it seemed like a good way to meet new people with something intelligent to say.  The Craigslist gods were smiling upon me again when they also led Kelly to the same book group.  In time, a core few of us not only expanded the number of books on our shelves, but also became good friends.

Since those book group days, Kelly has left the book group, lived abroad, moved home, applied for schools, and moved back to San Diego.  During all that transition, two things remained constant: Her ability to keep in touch with her friends (hello Facebook!) and her love for Matthew.  I hadn’t met Matthew before he proposed, but I heard his name constantly woven into Kelly’s stories about her everyday life.  And when I met him, and saw the two of them together, I understood why he is an integral part of her… their togetherness is so easy and fluid, almost as if it were simply meant to be.

When they began planning their wedding, Matthew + Kelly were insistent on one thing – that everyone invited to the wedding be their friends… including “vendors.”  So when Kelly called and asked if I would be interested in meeting with them about their wedding photography, I was thrilled to be invited to participate in an event as warm and intimate as theirs will be.

We started the session with a beer at True North, spent the afternoon in Golden Hill (yes, I was in heaven!) and finished at the Spruce Street Bridge.  In the midst of all this, there were a smattering of polaroids  to commemorate the event.  It was indeed magical.

Thank you Matthew + Kelly, for allowing me to share a beautiful afternoon with you in one of my favorite neighborhoods.  Thank you for your enthusiasm, your kindnesses, and allowing me to shoot well after dark.  I can’t wait for your wedding in July nor can I wait to work with this guy:)
