San Diego Family Photographer // At the Beach

IMG_6940

Mid-summer of this last year, my grandfather passed away.  As one of 14 children, my father gathered his family to pay final respects to the man who left an immense legacy behind.  And though we gathered together to grieve, we also reconnected as family.  I spent 3 days with my brothers and their families (a rare event in itself) as well as aunts and uncles I hadn’t seen in years and cousins I had never met.  In the months since the funeral, we have all made extra efforts to stay in touch and I have never seen my dad happier than when he is teasing his sisters or telling stories about their childhood.  Two of my aunts came down with their families and spent Thanksgiving weekend at my parents’ house.  My cousins, landlocked in Arizona, wanted only to hang out at the beach and go to Seaworld.

It poured most of the day, so no photos of Seaworld, but the sun came out for a couple of hours so we could spend some time at the beach.

There is not much else I love more in this world than being surrounded by a big noisy group of people I love.  Can’t wait to see you all again soon!

The only positive thing that came from 9/11 was a lot of people reconnected – I heard from family I had not spoken to in thirty years. It’s sad that it takes something like death to prompt us to get back together, but I’m so happy that you had this time – thanks for sharing it with us!
