Personal // A Really Big Deal

This is my new front door…

… and my new neighbors.

And this is my new front yard…

When I was a kid, I hated where I lived.  It was hot.  It was in the middle of suburbia.  I felt stuck.  My goal?  When I was old enough to get my own apartment, my goal was to move west.  To the west were cooler temperatures, open spaces, golden sunlight and the ocean… the place I always went when I needed to just spend some time to myself.

When I was grew up and became an adult, I turned into a city girl.  I moved to an old neighborhood, right outside a vibrant, beautiful city, full of character and fascinating people.  I loved my home and I loved the proximity to everything.

The last few years, despite everything I ever promised myself, I found myself back in the suburbs.  While there started out being a few advantages, they quickly lost their luster and I have been trying to find a way back to a place I felt could be home.

Today I picked up my keys to an apartment 75 steps from the sand.  I feel like I am back in my element.  To say I am excited is an understatement. :)

Baby Session // Garrett

Garrett_001

Meet Garrett.

While in Utah, I had to get my baby-fix.  And nothing fits the bill more than little nephews. (In this case, Sharlyn’s.)  At a few weeks old, Garrett was wide-awake and unwilling to miss anything.  But he was also one of the calmest babies I have ever met.  The whole session, he just hung out, waiting for me, his mom, his auntie, or his older sister to entertain him.  (I’d like to think that we succeeded at that task.)

With a small army of women waiting on his every need, we were ready to start the session.

Cute baby?  Check.

Gorgeous window light?  Check.

Nice warm room, perfect for near-naked babies?  Check!

I loved his hair.  LOVED.  I wish mine would do this.

Thank you, Christiansen Family, for inviting me into your home, letting me hang out with you all afternoon, and for feeding me wonderful Mexican food.  Yum!  It definitely was a big part of The Best Roadtrip Ever!

Barrera Family // All Kids, All the Time

(I hope you don’t mind all the kid photos this week… we shot so many in Utah, I can’t help but share my favorites.  I promise next week, there will be some new faces.  But for now, indulge me, okay? ;))

One of the kids’ favorite things to do is play with their dad.  He throws them high up in the air, chases them around the yard, even doing cartwheels with them, and all the while they are giggling, shrieking, and yelling, “My turn, my turn!”  They all clearly adore each other and anxiously await everyday for when Daddy comes home.IMG_2262

Just be patient, little one.  It’ll be your turn soon… :)

Sharlyn // Best Road Trip Buddy. EVER.

IMG_1587

She doesn’t fall asleep in the car.  She laughs at all my jokes.  She tells me I’m bee-yootiful.  She goes along with my wild goose chase to find a Starbucks.  And she buys me breakfast when all I have is change.  What more could I ask for in a road trip buddy?

Along the way…

She also is willing to stop on the side of the road on a very narrow shoulder, on a very windy morning, so I can take pictures of her.

We had another photoshoot, Vegas-style, all polished and ready to go out on the town.  But these ones blew me away (whoops… no pun intended).

You are gorgeous, Steve. ;)

This Kid…

… cracks me up.  She was my shadow all weekend and I couldn’t have been happier.  Thanks to my brother, Jared, for the snap.
